The Anaheim Ducks are part of the Pacific division of the Western conference of the NHL, originally founded in 1993 as the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim. They became the Anaheim Ducks in 2006 of Anaheim, California, wearing black, metallic gold, and orange. Originally named after the Disney movie “The Mighty Ducks,” the new owners shortened the name to the Anaheim Ducks
The original logo featured a goalie mask forming the bill of a duck in front of two crossed hockey sticks, centered on a triangle. The original colors were jade green, eggplant, white and grey, with the home jerseys being predominantly white and the away jerseys being eggplant. Both jerseys featured diagonal stripes of white and grey on the front and sleeves, with green filling in below the stripes. On the eggplant jerseys, the triangle in the logo was grey, and on the white jersey it was green. On the sleeves were the team logo accompanied by the text “Mighty Ducks of Anaheim.”
When the team name changed in 2006, the jersey, logo and colors changed as well. Inspired by the United States Military Academy, the team chose black, metallic gold, and orange as their colors. Gold, white, black and orange stripes were featured on the bottom of the jerseys and on the sleeves, similar to the original jerseys. The logo was changed to the word “Ducks” in capital letters, with the “D” in the shape of a webbed foot, with “Anaheim” written above the team name. The orange color was selected to represent the neighborhood of Orange County, which Anaheim is a part of. The home jerseys were black, while the away jerseys were white. In 2007, the jersey included an NHL crest and made the logo smaller because of the new Rbk Edge jerseys used by all NHL teams, but increased the size the following year.
The team has had four third jerseys, or throwback jerseys, over the course of their time in the NHL. The 1995 jersey was green with eggplant and white stripes, with a logo of the Wildwing mascot in a jersey breaking through ice. The 1997 jersey was green with silver and eggplant strips and had the original Mighty Ducks logo. They also introduced a fourth jersey, which was the same in white without the bottom stripe.
The 2003 third jersey was black with purple and grey stripes with the Mighty Ducks logo and a “MD” shoulder patch. This jersey was so popular with the public that it influenced the new jersey design in 2006. The 2010 and most current third jersey has the current logo on the front with the original Mighty Ducks logo on the shoulders.
